James, a creative writer working for a secret agency, is assigned to develop a series of letters between two officers tasked with an undisclosed mission to gather intelligence from the ruling family of a foreign country. The task is daunting and dangerous.
The first letter asks one officer to travel to the country under disguise and create an environment conducive to gaining their trust. The officer is given complete freedom to use whatever methods they deem necessary. The other letter instructs the second officer to come in shortly after the first and provide backup and help devise an escape plan should something go awry.
As James develops the letters, more information is revealed regarding the mission – nothing that would indicate who they are or where they are going, but enough details are left in so that each officer reads different pieces of intelligence from them – giving each their own focus and purpose.
